UK seminar on rural domestic abuse – 4th February 2010

A seminar discussing approaches to domestic violence in rural areas is being held in Nottingham in the United Kingdom on Thursday 4th February 2010.

For example, isolation, poverty and the close-knit social structure of villages and small towns can make it difficult for those experiencing domestic abuse to access help or plan an escape route. As a result people like health professionals, schools, churches and voluntary groups all have a very valuable role to play as they are often the first point of contact for those experiencing domestic abuse.

The seminar will explore rural domestic abuse, hear how police forces are tackling the problem, showcase examples of successful domestic violence services running in rural areas and hear about how domestic abuse affects the Gypsy and Traveller communities.
